Hungarian Qualifying Round 10

Read on as Lewis Hamilton for Mercedes takes pole position.

Hungary is one of my favourite races of the year being one of the most demanding circuits on the calendar with tyre temperatures being one of the main factors and high downforce being the other where engine power isn’t all that useful. Drivers will only be allowed to use the prime (Medium) and option (Soft) tyre during the weekend. Traffic will be a problem in Qualifying for overtaking isnt easy.

All thoughts go to Jules Bianchi’s family through this difficult time as his funeral was on Tuesday where many drivers and fans attended. #JB17

Q1 saw McLaren’s Jenson Button just missed out on Q2 by two tenths. Both Sauber cars of Felipe Nasr and Marcus Ericsson and Both Manor cars of Roberto Merhi and Will Stevens knocked out as well.

Q2 saw Fernando Alonso’s McLaren break down at the entry to the pit lane, he helped the marshals push it back to the garage and didn’t come back out on track that brought out the RED flag. With little time to go all drivers went out on the soft tyre. Both Force India’s of Nico Hulkenberg, Sergio Perez, Pastor Maldonado’s Lotus and Carlos Sainz’s Torro Rosso were knocked out.

Q3 saw the Red Bull of Daniel Ricciardo push Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel for 3rd which Vettel just secure. Hamilton put in an incredibly quick time to take pole ahead of troubled Nico Rosberg.

Qualifying Results
1.Hamilton 2.Rosberg 3.Vettel 4.Ricciardo 5.Raikkonen 6.Bottas 7.Kvyat 8.Massa 9.Verstappen 10.Grosjean 11.Hulkenberg 12.Sainz 13.Perez 14. Maldonado 15.Alonso* 16.Button 17.Ericsson 18.Nasr 19.Merhi 20.Stevens

Alonso* did not set a time in Q2

Hamilton has been on top of every session so far this weekend so this could be an easy race for him tomorrow if Rosberg doesnt find the right balance in the car. The battle the Ferrari, Red Bulls and Wiliiams cars is close. Can Ricciardo take Red Bulls and his first podium this year or will the Ferrari’s hold him off?

McLaren has made a step this weekend with only two problems with Button losing two tenths on the run up to the finish line and Alonso stoping in the middle part of Q2. I think Force India did a amazing job to rebuild Perez’s car after his car rolled in Friday practise 1 because of an suspension failure. Considering both Force India cars did not run in Friday practise 2, 11th and 13th is a good showing.
