Russia hosted its first race last year as it was attended by the Russian President himself, Vladimir Putin. Russia also hosted the Winter Olympics in 2014 which the track is designed around.
Last year’s race was dominated by Lewis Hamilton to take his fourth win in a row that year and an advantage in the world championship. With Hamilton 1st and Rosberg 2nd, Mercedes were crowned Constructors Champion 2014. The win put Hamilton 17 points ahead of team-mate and championship rival, Nico Rosberg.
Hamilton took pole position and the race win with Mercedes, the only constructor to win so far.
Mercedes only need 3 more points than Ferrari this weekend to be crowned the 2015 Constructors Champions.
Fernando Alonso will stay with McLaren for 2016 and 2017, who announced earlier this week after team-mate Jenson Button confirmed that he would stay for 2016. Alonso signed at the end of 2014 a three-year contract with McLaren until 2017.
The race on Sunday will mark Alonso’s 250th grand prix in F1.
Roberto Merhi is back and racing this weekend as Alexander Rossi races in GP2.
