Raikkonen gets past and Verstappen ducts to the inside of turn 1 but Sebastian Vettel is on the outside and closing in. There’s contact as Vettel takes a tight line into turn 1. Raikkonen, stuck in the middle taps Vettel’s right rear tyre sending Vettel spinning. Verstappen loses a piece of his front wing on Raikkonen’s car and he loses a bit of his wing as well.
Going up Eau Rouge, Verstappen cuts the corner completely while Raikkonen slows as his front wing is damaged. Magnussen gets out of the car but is limping. The moment Magnussen crashed, the g-force peaked at 12.5.
At the end of lap 6, with the Safety car deployed, several drivers make their way into the pits for a change of tyres such as Sergio Perez, Kimi Raikkonen, Romain Grosjean and Jolyon Palmer. Lap 9, still behind the Safety car, the signal is called to let lapped cars through. Kimi Raikkonen is the only car to be lapped and this Safety car will help his race. Lap 10, the race has been red flagged and the cars make their way into the pits. The cars line up in the order that they were on track and now wait for the barrier at Eau Rouge to be repaired.
