Buemi makes history by winning in Buenos Aires

Sebastian Buemi wins the Buenos Aires ePrix and becomes the first Formula E Driver to win 3 races in a row.

The Renault e.Dams driver continues his winning streak and extends his lead at the championship. Having won the previous 2 races, Buemi’s lead in the championship has grown to 29 points ahead of Lucas di Grassi.

Di Grassi led from his first ever Formula E Pole Position but struggled in the early laps and couldn’t keep Jean-Eric Vergne and Buemi behind. By lap 6, Buemi overtook Vergne for the lead into turn 1. Adam Carroll is stranded on the grid but gets going eventually. Di Grassi was then overtaken by Oliver Turvey and Nico Prost. After a poor qualifying, Sam Bird dropped to the back of the field developing gremlins on his car.

Turvey, Mitch Evans and Loic Duval pitted and changed over to their second car before everyone else. The next lap came and Buemi, Vergne, Prost and Di Grassi pitted along with the rest of the field except Felix Rosenqvist and Nick Heidfeld, who stayed out for a further lap. Di Grassi narrowly avoided a collision with Nelson Piquet when he came out of the pits. Evans was given a 5 second time penalty for speeding under the yellow flags and that ended his chance of his and Jaguar’s first points.

Rosenqvist pits to change over into his second car and there is a problem with getting the power on. Time is lost and so is his chance of points. After the change overs, Buemi led ahead of Vergne, Prost, Di Grassi, Piquet and Turvey. Di Grassi overtakes Prost on lap 24 into turn 1 for the final podium position. Vergne and Di Grassi start to close in Buemi in the final laps as teammates Jerome D’Ambrosio and Duval battle it out with Duval getting the better.
