Red Bull has announced that Pierre Gasly will race alongside Max Verstappen for the 2019 Formula One Season.
Red Bull have decided to promote the young Frenchman from the Toro Rosso squad in replacement of the departing Daniel Ricciardo who moves to Renault at the end of 2018.
Gasly, who currently drives for Red Bull’s junior team, made his F1 debut at the 2017 Malaysian GP before being made an official driver and full-time race seat for this season.
Gasly has comfortably out-performed team-mate Brendon Hartley so far this season and has taken a best finish of 4th at the Bahrain GP. A further 7th place in Monaco and 6th in Hungary has shown when in a good position, Gasly is able to make the most of it.
When Ricciardo announced that he was leaving Red Bull for Renault, Gasly quickly became the favourite to replace the Australian. With the news that McLaren had signed Carlos Sainz – Gasly’s only apparent rival for the seat – effectively meant that Gasly had secured the seat because McLaren needed Red Bull’s permission to sign Sainz.
