Much-needed result for Renault

Finally, it came good for the French team. Not only did the team get both cars in the top 10 in the race but Daniel Ricciardo’s 4th place only behind the two Ferrari’s and the Mercedes of Hamilton, showed the team’s true pace and the fact that the Australian was finally happy with the set-up of his R.S.19. Despite their best efforts, Ricciardo and Nico Hulkenberg couldn’t keep Max Verstappen and Valterri Bottas behind and although suffering engine concerns, Hulkenberg closed right up to Ricciardo but team orders, to protect his engine and the team’s first double-points finish, kept the drivers in 6th and 7th and a healthy 14 points to lift them to 6th in the championship and only 2 points behind customer team McLaren. Next stop on the calendar, the team’s home race in France!

Points for Stroll at home

It’s been a tough start to the season for the former Williams driver but the Canadian fought back from his 11th consecutive Q1 elimination to score well-deserved points on home turf. An engine failure in FP3 meant that he had to revert back to his old spec engine and his Q1 elimination, starting in 17th for the race, looked like points were going to be a tough ask. However, starting on the Hard tyre meant that he could run long into the race and when he pitted, he was 10th but on fresher tyres. A late overtake on McLaren’s Carlos Sainz Jr resulted in 9th and much-needed points for himself and the team.
